Salsa on1 or Salsa on2 ?

Greetings to everyone reading this post.

In the salsa world this is one of those hot topics, perhaps the hottest which has been subject to discussion daily if not hourly in meetings or events all around the globe.
If you search through Google or any other search engine you will find the differences between salsa on1 and salsa on2, you will find hundreds or thousands or articles/pages on this subject.

I could post some links or even explain myself the difference between the two but you are better off searching in Google for it.
In a few days i will sum up the juice of this and place it here in a new article or at my homepage http://www.igorcarrasco.com/ but for now please Google it.
Since you are on it search for the 8 beats in salsa, more on that in a later article also.

Usually when one starts learning salsa it begins with Salsa on1, I say this lightly since one can start learning on2. However as at least most dancers will agree it is easier to start learning Salsa on1 rather than on2. Why?

Well it is arguable of course, but because salsa on1 breaks on the first count it is easier for the untrained ear to catch and keep track of it, whereas salsa on2 breaks on the second count making it harder to catch.

I would say that musicians or people in the world of music have a starting advantage since counting is of great importance to get and stay on time.
For those of us unaware of music beats it is indeed a bigger challenge to get and stay on time but nothing a little practice won't fix. Agreed? More on that subject in a later article.

It is possible to start learning either with more or less difficulty.
The most generally accepted opinion is that what matter is to be on time and not off time.
Yet things start to get tricky when you start asking around which count gives you more "pleasure" dancing.

You look at the top superstars, I'm not going to get into favorites here though you should look up the names Johnny Vasquez and Frankie Martinez.
Ironically Johnny Vasquez dances on1 and Frankie Martinez dances on2,most of the times at least.
So basically you have a different answers depending on who you ask whether common dancers like me or even world recognized stars.

Right up until now all I have been stating is more or less of general knowledge what i am going to say next is just my humble opinion so instead of fragging me on spot bear with me ok?

I have been dancing on1 for a couple of years, before that I danced a few years on ... Well basically on1/on5 until I taught myself the difference. And only recently i have been giving the on2 a shot.

From my point of view dancing on1 gives you more power and energy while dancing whereas dancing on2 provides you with a "different" swing, it actually appears that by dancing on2 you have more time to perform the moves. I know it seems weird but if you haven't tried it yet now is the time. Until you have danced on1 and on2 it is very hard to understand.

One thing I've heard more than once is that all the mooves made on1 can be made on2 but the opposite isn't true... I haven't had much practise on2 up until now so i still can't verify it, hope to hear more opinions on the subject.

I do like dancing on2 yet it is so different... So far nothing makes me feel the same as dancing salsa on1.

<link rel='related' href='http://www.igorcarrasco.com/' title='Which do you prefer and why?
